Appreciating others is the act of giving thanks to others. When you show appreciation and reflect how you feel to someone, it not only provides recognition for them, it also creates positive feelings within you. The positive feelings emanate from the act of giving to another. It can provide value to both the recipient and you as the giver of that appreciation. Simply put, it generates positive emotion.
As you go about your week and interact with family, friends, or coworkers, think about what strengths that person brings to relationships. Take an opportunity when you feel that you can genuinely express appreciation. Be specific in what you appreciate in that person. Tell them not only what you appreciate about them, but why and how what they did or do makes a difference. Oh, and by the way, people will remember how you make them feel when you take the time to appreciate them.
